COUNTDOWN: 3 days till the WORLD CUP in BRASIL

Winners and losers of the football World Cup

For many countries the football World Cup will be great entertainment and fun. The party mood will depend on how the team of the particular country achieves success. Employers will be confronted with many tired workers, because most of them will watch the games late at night. Completely different will be the situation for some people in Brazil itself. They will pay the price for our summer entertainment.

Especially in emergent countries like Brazil, Millions are invested in enormous stadiums or in streets, which are not needed afterwards. This false investment is very annoying for people living there.

Affluent countries relinquish to have the World Cup in their country, because they would need to invest a great amount of money. Poor countries have to assume this job because some politics there think that they can benefit from it. Therefore citizens from these countries have to pay higher taxes to finance this great activity. The riots in Brazil clearly reflect the opinion of them about the acting of the government. If nothing is going to change in the future, sport events will solely take place in authoritarian states.

If you are interested in further reading about this topic or if you want to know why the World Cup could be a complete disaster, check out this article.

Microwaves

                            Are microwaves harmful?

The use of microwaves is a hard discussed theme nowadays. In the 1970´s microwaves became popular and today almost 80% of Austrian households own one of these machines.  Many people can not imagine a life without this small kitchen assistant. Why? This creation is such a handy tool to defrost vegetables or to reheat food from the last day within seconds. Although there are people who think that the microwave is health-damaging. It is feared that microwaves destroy nutrients or that microwave radiation is harmful and makes sick.

Is microwave radiation dangerous?
Actually they are not designated hazardous if a few things receive attention. A microwave has strict safety requirements which are responsible that the radiation can not leak. Therefore the radiation is not harmful as long as the device is in a good condition. It is important that people always have enough safety distance towards the microwave.

The destiny of nutrients
Researches show that the food ingredients do not change more if they are rehashed in a microwave oven. In general food looses nutrients if they get heated no matter by cooking, roasting, frying or by microwave. The longer and the hotter the food becomes heated, the more nutrients will be destroyed.

Conclusion:  microwaves - yes or no?
Microwaves have advantages as well as disadvantages. Everybody needs to decide for themselves if it is always necessary to heat the food in the microwave. Basically it is recommended that people should cook fresh as often as possible and if there are any temporary bottlenecks they could use the microwave.

10 ways to beat stress

10 ways to beat stress

As we are talking about Health in class at the moment I was thinking about a good topic to blog about. As every student has their own health related problems I found one thing that every person has to struggle with now and then –stress!
Now I will explain you 5 good ways to reduce stress in your life [if there is any ;)  ]
Too much work, and too less time for sleep: In the long run physical and mental stress can be very unhealthy. A person, who is permanently stressed, has problems like: headaches, dizziness, anxiety and difficulties in concentration.
To avoid such consequences it is important to fight against stress sufficiently early.
Now I will disclose you the best 5 anti-stress-tips:

·       -  Pedometer for more movement!
Sport is the best way to work off stress and to cater for welfare. Recommendable are sports like Jogging, swimming or rowing. Someone who needs a particular motivation can try to use a pedometer. This device counts every step that the person takes. ( 5.000 steps per day are enough to feel better)

·      -   Time for yourself!
A person who is permanently stressed takes no time for him/herself. It´s about time to change something. Think about the last few weeks and find out what you really neglected. It doesn´t matter if you just wanted to read a book or if you wanted to do something more exciting like a balloon flight. Take time for yourself and try to switch of your sense of duty- at least for a moment!

·      -   Waive on Smartphones & Co.
Modern devices can actually make life easier for some people but often it causes stress. The problem: You can be permanently contacted by phone! If you are stressed, switch off your phone for the next 24 hours and feel the difference. If that situation is too extreme, just switch it off for the next few hours.

·     -    Laughing is healthy!
Laughing is one of the best methods to reduce stress. It helps to liberate happiness hormones such as Serotonin.

·     -    Enough sleep!
If someone is stressed, people don´t have enough sleep or at least the sleeping quality is poor.  A sleep deficit leads to the release from the stress hormone Cortisol. If your body has enough sleep, you will feel good.

What good bloggers do!

I´m sure there are a few different things that everyone can do to improve his own blogging. First of all it is important to find a current topic that you think is interesting to read for your audience. How your pet looks like, is maybe good to know for you, but for other students it will become boring after reading two lines of such a text. After you found a great topic it is all about research. Some blogs are indeed very long, but some bloggers just write nonsense and repeat themselves all the time. It is important to create a chronological order of thoughts in your text and that you have enough information to write about. Sometimes it is useful to get information from other resources except the internet, because we all know that the net is not always right. After you wrote your text you should posh your blog up. For instance you can add pictures or videos to support your writing.

Immigration to the U.S.

Immigration to the United States was the reason for population growth and cultural change throughout much of the history of the United States. Many aspects of immigration have changed the whole system of the country. In the year 1965 there was a liberalization of the immigration policy and so the number of permanent legal residents was much higher (from 9.6 million in 1970 to about 38 million in 2007). The leading emigrating countries to the United States were Mexico, India, and the
      Philippines.

Reasons for Immigration

There are many reasons why people want to immigrate to the US. Some of them search for a safer life, because the standard of living in their home country is very bad and sometimes in the case of wars and terrorist attacks also very dangerous. Their reasons are marriage, employment, education and many others. The immigrants try to earn more money than in their home countries and live relatively better. Some go back to their countries after some time; some never do and live the rest of their lives here. Those who stay here the rest of their lives usually get their green cards when their US born children reach 21 years old or if an amnesty shows up.
Every immigrant has the wish to achieve their own American Dream, which is the opportunity for all citizens to become rich and famous if they work hard enough.

How to become an American citizen:

Becoming an American citizen is a dream for many people who are born outside of the United States. However, changing U.S. immigration laws and restrictions have made it more difficult for foreign born people to legally enter the United States and gain American citizenship. There are three legal ways in which a person can become an American citizen:
a.       naturalization
This is the most common way that a foreign-born person can try to gain American citizenship. To qualify for naturalization you must meet a number of prerequisites i. e. an age restriction of 18 years.
b.      right of birthplace
If a child is born in the US they are granted the American citizenship regardless of the citizenship of his or her parents.
                  c.    right of blood
A child is given American citizenship automatically if at least one
of their parents is a legal US citizen at the time of their birth.

What is an Internship?

An Internship is a system of on-the-job training for budgie white collar jobs, similar to a apprenticeship. Interns are usually college or university students, but they can also be highschool students or graduate adults, who want to seek skills for a new career. Student internships provide opportunities for students to gain experience in their field and some interns find permanent paid employments with the companies in which they interned. An internship may be either paid, unpaid or partially paid. Paid internships are most common in the medical, architecture, science engineering, law and technology fields. Internships may be part-time or full-time jobs. They usually last six to twelve weeks, but can be shorter or longer, depending on the company involved. One popular type of an internship is called “Internship abroad”. You can go to a different country and make your experience there. You not only get better English skills, you also get more money, maybe when you work abroad. You also get to know new people and different cultures, which is very exciting. In fact you have done an internship in another country it is very good for your résumé. The reason why companies do offer such jobs is very clear: They want to improve the company’s reputation and get also good fundings from the state employing interns. They can also hire the interns as translators or they can also get more cultural backgrounds.

A beautiful, heart touching LOVE STORY

                                        The HOLIDAY

“The holiday” is a 2006 produced American comedy film written and directed by Nancy Meyer, a famous film director. Production on the movie began in Los Angeles, then moved to England for a month before completing filming back in California. The main characters in this movie are: Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jude Law and Jack Black. In London, Iris Simpkins (played by Kate Winslet), write a wedding column in a newspaper and has an unrequited love for her colleague Jasper Bloom. Nearby Christmas, she is informed that Jasper is engaged and will marry another colleague, and so her life turns head over heels. In Los Angeles, the movie-trailers maker Amanda Woods (played by Cameron Diaz) has just broken up with her unfaithful boyfriend Ethan and wants to forget him. Amanda access a house exchange website, and impulsively swaps her mansion for Iris' cottage in Surrey for the holiday along the next two weeks. While in Surrey, Amanda meets Iris' brother and book editor Graham (played by Jude Law)  and they fall in love for each other. Meanwhile Iris meet her next door neighbor, the ninety year old screenplay writer Arthur (played by Jack Black), who helps her to retrieve her self-esteem, and the film composer Miles, and they fall in love for each other. So this called “Home exchange” got more and more famous the last few years. It is the practice that refers to the swapping of homes on a temporary or more permanent basis. Not everybody feels comfortable with the fact that someone the person doesn´t know lives in his/her house. These two women in the movie see that Home exchange as a new chance, to flee from all their problems, just to be far away where each of them can think clearly. When the women first arrived to their new place, they were really surprised because nobody of the two did expect a house like this in any way. Both places are really different. There is those lovely and tiny building from Iris; a tranquil cottage close to London with the establishment which is very ordinary and rural. The structure from Amanda is quite the opposite; a huge and magnificent Hollywood mansion in LA. Wherever you look you can see expensive and qualitative Designer Furniture. The two woman were quite shocked when they saw their new home but no one actually got home sick; no, they saw that as a exciting and uncertain experience. As the buildings are totally different also the two main female characters were not cut from the same timber. Iris is for sure the one who is more calm and sensitive; she is in love with her co-worker Jasper but this love remains unrequited. That´s also the reason why she wants to leave the country for a while. Amanda is like quite more injured; she was cheated by her boyfriend Ethan and that´s why she is really depressed but can´t even cry. In her despair she also decided to live out the Christmas time far away. In my opinion this is such a great movie. I love the characters in general and I think the plot is very interesting and romantic. I can just advice everybody to watch it and make your own image of it.
